Tracy was born in High Point, NC on June 24, 1969 to James T. Howell, Jr. and Ida McLean Howell. She was raised in High Point along with her younger brother and sister, James and Nickie. She became a born-again Christian on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1987.
After her conversion, she sat under the preaching and teaching of her pastor, youth minister and church mothers at St. Paul United Church of God. She became a Sunday School teacher, and eventually leader of the youth group there. Tracy gave her initial sermon in November of 1990, at the age of 21, where she preached, "Don't Give Up! It Takes Perseverance". Although she had endured a lot as a child and teen, it was after this that Tracy really learned the meaning of "perseverance". She found that being young and in the ministry would make her a prime target for Satan and his attacks. Nonetheless, she continued in the work of the ministry.
She spent six years in Alaska volunteering in homeless shelters, the Covenant House (a shelter for runaway teens) and Rights of Passage (a home for unwed teenage mothers). While in Alaska she ministered on the streets, in the bus station and conducted bible studies in the Brother Francis Homeless Shelter. These opportunities have been blessings and privileges to her in more ways than can be mentioned.
One of Tracy's favorite Bible passages: "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth." 1John 3:16-18
